CHATSWORTH, Calif., March 2, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Capstone Turbine Corporation (www.capstoneturbine.com) (Nasdaq:CPST), the world’s leading clean technology manufacturer of microturbine energy systems, announced today that it received an order for two C1000 microturbines to upgrade a top Northern California brewery.
Regatta Solutions, Capstone’s distributor in California, secured the order, which is expected to be commissioned later this year.  Two Capstone C1000 microturbines will replace the aging natural gas fuel cells currently powering the California brewery. Capstone microturbines can seamlessly meet changing facility demands and are flexible enough to allow for irregular daily load profiles, which effectively maximizes efficiency and reduces operating costs.
“The brewery, like many of our clients, vetted multiple technologies, including traditional reciprocating engines. However, the Capstone solution presented the best option, offering a clean emission technology to act as the base load for a smart grid installation,” said Steven Acevedo, President and CEO at Regatta Solutions.
The two Megawatt combined heat and power (CHP) system will be integrated with the existing solar PV system in a microgrid application to provide reliable on-site power and the ability to export any excess power generated. In addition, thermal energy from the microturbine exhaust will be captured through cogeneration and transferred to heat exchangers to provide space heating and hot water.
With Capstone’s patented emission technology, operations at the brewery will meet the state of California’s stringent emissions standards without the need for expensive and unreliable exhaust after treatment equipment. The units will be commissioned in a CHP heat recovery configuration so the plant’s total system efficiency will exceed 80 percent.
“Businesses are continuously looking for ways to enhance their core processes and become more energy efficient, reduce costs and be good stewards of the environment,” said Jim Crouse, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Capstone Turbine. “Capstone microturbines are the ideal solution, helping businesses achieve energy independence by providing clean, reliable power at a lower cost than the utility,” added Crouse.
