Andrea Marr to Speak on Panel: Empowering Veteran-Owned Businesses (May 21)

Andrea Marr

Andrea Marr, VP of Energy Services

In conjunction with the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy, Andrea Marr, Regatta Solutions’ VP of Energy Services, will be speaking on a panel to expand small business development resources for veterans. The roundtable, titled “Building Blocks for Veteran Entrepreneurs” seeks to “attract policy makers, services providers, elected officials and the business community (many of whom are veterans) for a discussion on small business development resources for veteran entrepreneurs. [The] objective is to demonstrate the importance of ‘business for self’ as a positive career alternative and to relay available public and private resources for starting or expanding entrepreneurial endeavors.”

As Vice President of Energy Services, Andrea Marr is responsible for demand side energy management programs at Regatta Solutions. This practice includes energy monitoring, auditing and analysis at facilities ranging from hospitals to breweries. She is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy (Aerospace Engineering) and subsequently served as the Gunnery Officer on two deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and as a Nuclear Engineering Officer for a third deployment. She was a 2013 recipient of the White House Champion of Change award for her work in energy as a veteran.

Andrea Marr to Participate on Panel at Screening of the film “THE BURDEN.”

On Tuesday, April 21, 2015, Andrea Marr, Navy veteran and Regatta Solutions’ VP of Energy Services, will be a member of the panel discussion at the screening of the film “THE BURDEN.” This film highlights how the U.S. military is uniquely positioned to bolster a clean energy economy that will strengthen our national, economic, and environmental security. Produced and directed by Roger Sorkin, the film “[illuminates] the economic opportunities offered by a renewable energy economy and includes interviews with an array of political and military leaders.”

As a member of the Truman National Security Project and a licensed professional engineer, Ms. Marr writes and speaks about energy from the perspective of both an industry insider and as a veteran. She was a 2013 recipient of the White House Champion of Change award for her work in energy as a veteran.

Andrea Marr“Most people aren’t aware of the security implications of their energy decisions. This film is important because it draws attention to the inherent reliability and resiliency of distributed electricity generation” noted Ms. Marr. “As a veteran, I am proud to see the military making smart energy choices.”

Andrea Marr Discussion on "The Energy Management Roadmap" at REV Sustainability Circle

Andrea MarrRecently Andrea Marr, Regatta Solutions’ VP of Energy Services, was invited to be a guest lecturer for a REV Sustainability Circle®. Sustainability Circles, administered and mentored by San Francisco-based REV, are a cadre of organizations that meet regularly for six months to gradually develop their master sustainability and energy plans. The Circles teach facility managers and business owners how to successfully imbed sustainability into their organizations through behavior change, the use of appropriate metrics, and peer-based learning.

Andrea presented on “The Energy Management Roadmap,” briefly discussing the policies and regulations that resulted from the California Energy crisis and their impact on Circle participants. She also discussed ways in which organizations could begin to tackle their energy challenges, starting with benchmarking and utility bill analysis and ending with deep energy retrofits. Her lecture included many real world examples of challenges and successes from her experience in the industry.

For more information on how your organization can benefit from effective energy management strategies, please contact Andrea directly at amarr@regattasp.com. For more information about REV please contact Mike O’Brien at mikeo@revsustainability.com.

Details on REV and its programs can be found on the REV website.

Regatta Solutions Presents Case for AB674

Combined Heat and Power

Combined Heat and Power (CHP) provides power and heating to manufacturing and business sites.

Last week Andrea Marr, VP of Energy Services at Regatta Solutions, and other members of the California Clean Distributed Generation Coalition (CCDC) met with California state lawmakers at the State Capitol. The focus of the conversations was new legislation that would remove the unfair burden of departing load charges from most onsite cogeneration projects. This bill, AB674, sponsored by Assemblyman Kevin Mullin (D-22), would still require customers with clean onsite generation to pay utility fees for electricity purchased from the grid. It would, however, remove the requirement for these customers to pay what amounts to an additional 75-100% sales tax on these clean generation projects.

Regatta Solutions believes that a transition away from fossil fuel dependency is good for our environment, our air, and our economy. We also believe that cogeneration can ease the transition to a renewable economy by providing very efficient and powerful onsite generation and alleviating congestion on the grid. Industries like manufacturing and food production are extremely power intensive and no amount of solar on the roof will cover their usage. In all but very rare cases, manufacturers will continue to rely on the grid for all of their power, consuming more on hot days and putting a strain on the grid during peak times like the rest of us.

Without legislation to remove the burden of departing load charges, California is unlikely to meet Governor Brown’s goal of 6,500 MW of onsite power from cogeneration by 2020. In many cases, removing this charge would single handedly make projects financially viable. Regatta Solutions urges legislators to pass AB674 as quickly as possible to ensure California’s energy future remains clean and affordable.
